Immersion Timer Switch - Help Pls!

In the summer I had a new immersion timer switch. I've only got storage heaters and so electrical immersion only.

I've just had an electric bill that is quite high and I'm now worried I've got the switch on the wrong setting and it's on all day! My electrician isn't available until next week so wondered if anyone could advise.

It's the type you manually move the 'keys' in or out to set the time and has a small switch in the centre.

This can point to 0 --- --- 1 with the key being set to the 0 point, centre point, or 1. It has been set to the centre point.

I guess 0 is off, but underneath the 0 -- -- 1 there is a picture of a clock then lines like this
(read clock for @ key pls) @ _____ ______ with the clock parallel to the 0.

If I use a full tank of hot water it's usually for baths at night and so I don't really notice if it heats up quickly. It's set to come on for 1.5hrs in the night and we use Economy 7 electricity.

I've probably made this far more complicated than it really is but can you please let me know if, to use the timed settings the switch should be in the centre?

I think you're right in leaving the switch in the centre position as I think the other positions are to switch the immersion 'on' or 'off' manually. The immersion tank will have a themostat on so if it was set to be permantly 'on' then the thermostat would switch it off when the water got up to temperature. If the timer has a make and model number on try looking on the web for instructions.....Hope this helps.

    Thanks AndysDad, you're a star.

No make or model number to go by but at least you've reassured me.

    Thanks.

My immersion makes an audible hissing noise when heating water, you could have a listen when the timer goes to on.
