front tooth to be removed will i be left with gap

hello, I have a bad toothache.. antibiotics are not stopping the pain and all the dentist has told me they can do is pull the tooth as they can not do a root canal which is needed.
the tooth in question is one of my front top teeth so if the dentist pulls the tooth then I will have a gap in the most noticeable place. I wondered if I will have to live with a gap ?  I,m not sure if I would be given a 1 tooth denture nhs quickly or are no dentures being given/made at the moment.
I know I sound selfish for wanting a denture for a gap but please don't say anything horrible to me as I don't feel good and don't want to get upset..thankyou in advance for any replies.

They can do dentures just not drilling or cleaning.
Though dentures take a few weeks so yes you'll have a gap for a while

I've had denture repairs done during lockdown .

You wouldn't get a bridge or partial denture anyway until the wound has healed and the infection has gone .

You could pay privately for a false tooth fitted onto a metal post in the gap . This is colour coded to match existing teeth. This is not available on the NHS . They are called "dental implants"

I have had a one tooth center bottom denture made on the NHS. One tooth out then when extraction area had settled down it took 4 weekly impressions before I got my denture. . £269.

There are very few laboratories open at the moment and only around a third of dentists in England are open because of problems sourcing PPE.

The capacity for seeing patients is enormously reduced , a dentist in the nhs may see 30 or more patients a day , at the moment they can see 4 because of time to decontaminate surgery etc.

The few appointments will be prioritised for people having problems , urgent at first. So your tooth will be removed but will not be replaced for quite some time as it is not an urgent priority.

  • Least with what is going on at the moment if you are worried about going out with a gap you can wear a face covering or mask and no one would even know and then when things have settled down you can get the gap sorted.
