Anyone wear RGP/hard contact lenses

I use soft contacts but as I'm now over 40 and my close vision is going, I'm not finding them too good for overall vision. I've tried monovision and multifocal soft contacts with no success.
A colleague told me that RGP contacts can work better as a varifocal contact lens and are better for dry eyes, which I also have issues with. You don't hear of many people using this type of contact lens these days so wondering if anyone here wears hard/RGP lenses or has tried then who could share their experience? Thank you.

I wear gas permeable hard lenses and have done for 40 years. I have one lens for near vision and one for long and they work perfectly together. The optician suggested it about 15 years ago and I can read small print and see long distance. I've never had a problem with them.1

I wear gas permeable hard lenses. I have worn them for 52 year and have had multi focal ones for the last 20 years. I can see very well with them. The reading part is better in good light. I first had them from a private optician who has long since retired and get them now from Asda. they cost about £180 for the pair and includes aftercare. The ones I am using at the moment are about 10 years old,

They are the only lenses i've ever had, worn them for years too and do the exact same as @rosewoodspa.

Monovision don't generally work any better with RGP than softs. You can get multifocal RGPs but very expensive and require lots of fitting appointment. Might want to check you optom is doing lens refits currently. I am not currently doing new lens fits.
Other options are overspecs for near or focusing the lenses for near and specs for driving
