O/S Daily Sunday 14 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Bright sunny and warm start to the day here. I got another line of washing line dried yesterday.
Dinner last night was a mixture of roasted chicken pieces, savory rice, boiled egg, pork pie, salad - general use up of bits - I have loads in the storecupboards and the freezer so now I have a shiny new working oven I want to get stocks used up and save some money on the food shop each week. I'll be doing some planning to get stocks used up. Roast lamb for lunch with HG new potatoes, veg, yorkshire pud and gravy. I bought lamb so that if for some reason the new oven didn't arrive or delivery didn't happen as it should I could cook the lamb in the slow cooker and just use the hob to cook the veg, but thankfully delivery happened as it should.
I was really impressed with the oven fitters and delivery - I got the option to have the old oven taken out and taken away and the new one fitted - I thought it was a bit expensive but under the present situation didn't know how long or even if I could get someone else to fit the new one and was pleased I did - they phoned when they were 15 minutes away and had a script of stuff they had to tell me (re covid19 etc) I showed them the kitchen and then we shut the connecting door from the kitchen to the rest of the house and they got on with it and called out once they had finished - all or all they were at mine less than 30 minutes and he'd had the oven turned on and working before they left. We'll see how it works today for a roast.
Yesterday work was very quiet, back to work tomorrow after a chilled day today - just going to cook roast, organise pack ups and chill for the rest of the day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Pleased all went as it should with the oven delivery. Hope it cooks your lamb to perfection!
No sun this morning but thankfully no rain either and it's very mild. Yesterday afternoon turned out to be a scorcher and it was so nice to feel warm sunshine again after all the rain.
DS arrived unexpectedly to cut the front hedge, which was beginning to go rampant. I ended up gofer and sweeper-upper. I also cut back the swathe of poppies which had been battered to the ground in the heavy rain. Such a shame cos when they are upright I just love them. The front garden looks a lot tidier now but seriously bereft of colour. The geraniums and fuchsia I planted in the tubs are still in bud but should soon open I hope.
I had a surprise message from the gutter cleaner and sealer last night - could he bring me forward from the 27th to today!!! Gosh to be working Sundays he must be busy busy! Of course I said yes and he is due this afternoon.
I have a small gammon joint (with honey glaze sachet included) thawing to roast for lunch. I'll have it with plenty of veg and make sure I do enough to warm up tomorrow with the remaining gammon.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking of REDRUBY and family having to cope with all the hassle and worry that the toxic ex is causing them. Take care all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Good morning folks.REDRUBY - your post yesterday was horrifying, I really hope that your DD can sort out the problem safely.Yesterday passed quietly. After shopping first thing nothing much happened. I didn't go back out as I'm expecting a parcel which was posted last Wednesday from Berlin and though it would arrive yesterday. RM stopped Saturday delivery of letters weeks ago and used Saturdays for parcels, however we got ordinary mail again though no parcel. Now I'll have to wait in on Monday. As I arrived home yesterday morning the builder who worked on the dry rot turned up to continue the work in the downstairs flat. He arrived just after 9.45am and didn't leave until 10pm. I thought that he might be staying overnight but he didn't.Right time for some action. I wish everyone a happy Sunday.12

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc, great news about your oven.
Red Ruby what awful behaviour from your DD's ex, subjecting children to that is dreadful.
We had similar weather to TA yesterday but our scotch afternoon was followed by a double rainbow and thunder, then rain. A bit cloudy this morning but mild.
My plan for today is to make a list of jobs and then ignore it. I will cook though, lasagne and salad.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning All
Overcast this morning but very mild, I have washing nearly ready so will put it out and see what happens. Yesterday was a bit drizzly in the afternoon but still quite warm, a good thunder storm would sort us out!
DD and the little one came over yesterday to collect the shopping, the baby is now 9 months old and as cute as a button, she did cry when I put my glasses on but quickly cheered up when I took them off.
RR - I hope you're all safe and well.
I've been for a bike ride to post the father'sday cards for the other DGC to give to their Dad, I forgot to put them in the envelope yesterday!
Enjoy Sunday, take care. XX11 -
Morning all.
Good luck with the new oven nmlc. That was certainly good service from the fitters.
TA, Isn't it lovely to look out and see tidy hedges. Looks as if the garden has had a haircut. Lucky garden! Enjoy your gammon joint, I always think that it is the most versatile of meats, so many things you can do with the leftovers.
Gers, I noticed that, when I posted some cards yesterday, the post box said - next collection Saturday - and I thought they must have made a mistake, but no, I had a delivery later on so they must be back to normal.
AOD, I must remember that the sole reason for making a ToDo list is so that I have something to ignore. My grandmother constantly reminded me that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but to no avail. My mind does all the organising, cleaning, letter-writing etc. if only my body was equally as busy.
Nothing planned for today, so no disappointment if nothing is accomplished.
RedRuby, I have been simmering with barely suppressed fury ever since I read your post yesterday. I do hope that your dd manages to get something sorted without having to be involved herself.
What a piece of work her ex is!

Morning all
Nice bright sunny day here, dd has stripped her bedding and got it on a hot wash, will have a quick wizz round the house this morning and then get out for a ride or walk the dogs.
Thanks for the good wished re dd, I want to reassure you that it had all been reported to the relevant authorities and we will continue to do so, things are happening but I dont want to put too much on here just in case someone sees it but it is being sorted !!
I have woken starving so will do a good breakfast in a while and then get on with the day, I slept in late this morning as I did not have a good night.
BBQ for dinner tonight got some pork chops and some chicken bits to make some kebabs.
Topsy well done for 5 miles on your bike thats brilliant xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Hi everyone, especially TA. I have been reading, usually at night so it's a bit late to post.
We're all fine but have had a very busy week. After a lot of thought and discussion we decided to merge households with Laura and Brian. Laura was having a really hard time with Esben, getting very little sleep and feeling increasingly isolated especially after people were allowed to meet but she was nowhere near anyone she knew. They quarantine themselves for 14 days and then came straight here so we are as sure as we can be that everything was fine. They've been here since last Sunday and we're all ok. We all feel a bit guilty but having had the week with them I know it was the best thing to do. Esben is teething and having a really hard time of it so he's quite exhausting at the moment. Laura has to get up to him several times in the night and then she passes him on to me for the morning while she goes back to bed and Brian works. That was the other problem because he was and is working all day and then several hours at night so he wasn't able to help her very much.
Apart from baby wrangling we haven't been doing a lot. My laptop remains unopened for a lot of the time but I'm not complaining. Steve is still managing to play golf 3 times a week, which is the limit the club has put on it thank goodness otherwise I'm sure he'd be there nearly every day.
Dumpling, Ruby and Molly, I hope the results from your various tests come back positively, I shall be keeping my fingers crossed.14 -
Morning everyone
Just having a cuppa then I'll go down the hill to do dad's email to eldest DD in Sweden. She has been telling me this morning how hot it is there and how she's going to spend the day sunbathing....it's still foggy here was my reply!
Yesterday's weather was awful - the fog didn't lift all day. I have washing ready to go on the line so I'm hoping it brightens up later. When I went to the bin earlier it did feel milder so that's good.
RedRuby your DDs ex sounds terrible - at least she's away from him. It makes you wonder how the little boys mum can let him go and stay in the house. Hope she gets things sorted moneywise.
I watched the latest remake of Little Women last night - I enjoyed it but it's nowhere near as good as the original. It went backwards and forwards too much for me.
My fish and chips last night were delicious - they tasted even better for not having had them for a while.
Well I'd better move. Hope everyone has a good day. Anyone with sunshine please send some my way

Morning all,Lovely here this morning.DH has just cut the hedge at the front as we were getting a bit overgrown. No plans today really. We had our restaurant meal takeaway last night, it made a change. It was more like a home cooked meal than what I would call restaurant style, but good value.Dp1 DH and I shared a portion of fish and chips at lunchtime, gorgeous after so long.Ruby - good to know that things will hopefully be sorted re the house, what an obnoxious man!We will use the meat pack kebabs for tea tonight, depends on the weather later as to whether we bbq or cook in the oven.Take care everyone xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
