Can I make this top less “scratchy”?

I have a beautiful top which I bought oh probably about 10 years back. It’s been worn a handful of times and I spotted it in the back of the wardrobe today and pulled it out.
Less than a minute on and I remembered why I don’t wear it. It is horrendously scratchy and leaves my skin red and irritated.

I’ve washed it previously with everything I can think of and no improvement.
I looked up the label , which was in Italian, and after a bit of research have found it is 66% acrylic, 19% wool, 5% elastane and 10% nylon.

If anyone has any ideas I’d welcome them. Prepared to try anything because as it stands it’s unwearable so if I ruin it in the process of trying  that would be unfortunate but I can’t wear it as is.

Thanks

Although I never usually use fabric conditioner, have you tried soaking it in some?
You might need to experiment with different ones.

If that doesn't work, then wearing a layer of something underneath is probably the only answer.

I swear by silk vests. Not cheap, but temperature controlling, hypoallergenic and very comfortable against the skin. Machine washable at 30 degrees, or a quick hand wash, spin in a towel and dry by the next day.
I get mine from Patra.  You can get sleeveless, cap sleeve, short sleeve or long sleeve.

I'll go and look for a link......

It’s a fairly tight fitting top so a vest would make it lumpy - note, the vest would make it lumpy, not me or my ample frame

I’ve come to the conclusion it’s the wool part that’s the issue, I can’t wear lambs wool as it makes me itch the same way. I did wonder about buying one of the hand wash solutions for delicates - something like woolite? Or I did even think about hair conditioner.

I’ll have a week of experimentation and will report back - nothing to lose. It’s amazing what I’ve found in the depths of closets and drawers during lockdown. I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy clothes again!

I cant wear lambs wool either and no amount of conditioners make it any better . Actually makes it worse and then not only am I itchy, Ive a horrible perfume to put up with as well

Nothing is going to make that comfortable if you have an aversion to lambs wool. An antihistamine may help

I don't think a silk vest would make it lumpy as they are so thin and supple. It would be the same as a lining attached to the top.
