I've used various jars for my jam including a yellow mustard one (it still had the yellow ring around the lid but had been scrubbed and put through dishwasher several times). Bisto jars, sauces jars everything really.

  • I use any sorts of jar, without any problems. The only issue might be the lids - sometimes strong flavours (such as pickles) impregnate the plastic in the lid.

As already mentioned, the lids might hold onto strong flavours.

Not quite the same thing, but I kept a 'useful' branston pickle jar for storage purposes. I washed it a couple of times in the dishwasher and to all intents and purposes the smell had gone. We stored some brazil nuts in it...branston flavoured brazil nuts aren't nice..._pale_
  • As others have mentioned, a few goes through the dishwasher often gets rid of unwanted lingering whiffs, but if not, i have filled jar with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and left for a few hours, inverting it so the lid also gets treated-this sometimes does the trick:D
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most..... ;)
