Is this something I should raise as a disciplinary matter?

MediumSizedBrain

I applied for a another role within the company I work for and I have been made aware of a public internet post made by someone I work with which is just not true in any aspect. The post looks like it has been made to damage my reputation and stop me from getting this new role.
I don't want to include much detail as they have posted this public on a social media site. The premise of the post is a false accusation on a work related agenda and is just a lie with no proof. My name is mentioned and the post is about me. I don't know what to do as I'm unsure of what this type of incident can be classified as?

You don't raise it as a disciplinary matter; you raise it as a complaint against the individual concerned. Take a screenshot of the offending post now (if you've not done so already) and refer it to HR; your line manager; or if your company issues guidelines on such matters, whoever is specified in these.0

Settle for 'untrue'.1

Without knowing any information about context or anything don't expect them to take your word for it being untrue, if they are going to do anything about it they will need to investigate. As have been involved looking at something similar before and it ended up being the person that had made the complaint had posted it themselves, to try to get the other person into trouble.0

Your employer should have a grievance procedure. Taking this route means that the matter has to be investigated formally. Obtain a copy of the post in situ.0

This is a grievance, a disciplinary may be an outcome from the employer to the other member of staff, but that is a separate process and you wouldn’t usually be informed of any outcome.Try and avoid legal terminology like slander (which isn’t for the written word anyway - that’s libel I believe) and just say “(Person) has written this about me on social media and it is untrue”
What sort of plum writes about work on social media in this day and age?!Union official.
CiPD qualified.
Anything I post is solely MY OPINION. It never constitutes legal, financial or collective bargaining advice. I may tell you based on information given how I might approach an employment dispute case, but you should always seek advice from your own Union representative. If you don't have one, get one!0 -
If an employee has posted information on a public forum which may have a detrimental effect on the company then it may be a disciplinary offence. I would screenshot it and speak to your HR department about it.
