Power Wash for Gas Central Heating GLASGOW

Hi, does anyone know anyone who can do a power wash for gas central heating? Scottish Gas have quoted me £500 and there's no way I can afford that at this time of year.

My central heating can't be turned off now because the dirt settles and blocks it plus I have a perpetual drip outside my front door. It's constantly soaking wet. Last week during the frost I fell on my way to work.

Any recommendations?

  • Hi Fletch i am a Corgi registered installer , 90% of systems can be chemicaly flushed which is a much cheaper option , Scottish gas are pushing the powerflush due to the high profit involved .
  • So what does a chemical flush entail then? How much does that cost? Apparently the grime is pushing the valves open, hence the dripping. An engineer was out yesterday because the system wouldn't go back on.

Try to find yourself a recommended independant Corgi registered plumber. We were told a number of years ago by British gas that we required a power flush. An independant plumber told us we needed a new pump. We went back to British gas as we had their 3* cover and the second gas board engineer agreed we needed a new pump and fitted one. We later got the plumber to do a chemical flush and we have had no problems since.

Our plumber went for an interview with British Gas a number of years ago and was told a large part of his job would be selling at which point he walked out!s

  • Fletch Oscar is correct in what he says , if it`s an average size house about £100 .
  • Fletch did you get your heating sorted.
  • Hi, no it's still dripping. Husband was trying to see someone about it but no joy yet. The gutter has joined the drip-fest too so it's like Niagra falls at the front of my house. The pouring rain, the dripping gutter and the leaking central heating................ Santa will need a snorkel and flippers at this rate!

  • Know this is an old thread but we had a powerflush done by a local company called FEP heat care, our heating system seems to be working more efficiently than before. Although admittedly it's difficult to tell because it was done before this winter and I'm comparing to last year. Anyway, bit cheaper than british gas, might be worth a look?
  • My old central heating system kept on breaking down plus on general some heaters would only get warm and not hot. After every engineer call out, the system would work for a few months and then breakdown again. I have changed numerous diverter valves, pumps and thermostats.

As the central heating system was old (30 yrs +), I was told I would need a new boiler and complete pipework. Faced with spending £2500, I decided to go for a powerflush and went with Central Powerflush in Glasgow. They were a new company and had a deal on for £200. Radiators needed a good clean anyway even if it didn't work.

As it turned out, the powerflush did a magnificent job. Not only did it restore heat to all the rads, the system has not broken down once since it was done 4 years ago! Also since then my boiler has been at temperature mark 2 at most where as before it was never off Max (5). I reckon I recouped the money spent on the powerflush within months on gas savings. :j

Moral of the story - changing parts might get the system going again but a sludged up system will just cause the next weakest link to cause problems. Poweerflushing might seem expensive and unnecessary, but in this carbon conscious climate, it makes even more sense.
