Santander Early Redemption Fee - New Mortgage

Hi
I sold my house in Feb this year and as part of this paid Santander an early termination fee which was significant amount. I was told at the time that if I bought a new house within 3 months then I could potentially get this fee back. The 3 months is now past but I have found a house now and had an offer accepted, I called them today and they said they 'may' extend the 3 months to 5 months. I'm not sure if I could complete in this time anyway but anyone been through a similar process at all that could tell me whether they got anything agreed or not?
Thanks
Mark
