Removing an ex partner from the mortgage

Hi thanks for looking. I am writing this post on behalf of my sister. She is going thru a remortgage and wants her ex partner removing from the mortgage - do you have any idea how much would it cost?  There is not financial settlement, the partner never contributed to the mortgage and was only on it at the time for affordability purposes at the last remortgage.  Are there any national solicitor firms that would do this as I am trying local ones and the first quote I got was £600!!
I remember adding my wife to my mortgage deeds a few years ago and it was 300 + VAT.

    He is due half the value of the property. Your sister would have to be able to get a mortgage on the property in her own name also and he would have to agree.

    Forget the remortgage and spend the money on a solicitor and a proper financial settlement.

    Assuming her remortgage is one which comes with "free legals" or similar, the lenders' solicitors are likely to do this as a reasonably-priced add-on. Instructing a different solicitor might complicate things (and add to the costs) as the new lender may well want their preferred solicitor to act for them.

    It's not really a case of "taking him off the mortgage" That's not possible. What she needs to do is refinance in her own name which brings me to this point you made.

    Would she pass affordability tests on her own now? 

    That's an aside from the legal aspects between them of who owns what percentage of the property, (and anything else for that matter). I'd suggest a solicitor is needed to make things final.
