Repay loans after death

Hello, i am not sure if this is the right place to start but i am looking for information on behalf of my Neice. My Neice and her husband are living in Canada and have been for 10 years. Her husband has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, he has months to live. She has just found out about 2 loans he had in his name only before they moved to Canada. The bank is Barclays in Ipswich. My question is what will happen to the 2 loan  when her husband dies. Will the loans be wiped clean?  Will the loans be passed to my Neice? Will she be forced to repay it? 
I believe the loans were personal ones and he has a Army Pension paid into that bank. Her husband is in a very bad way and she is struggling to learn anything from him as his memory is going. There is also red tape with everything legal. If Anyone could help in this Matter i would be extremely grateful... Thank you

Any debts will be repaid from his estate.

They don't get passed on to anyone else.

Personal Loans do not last for 10 years or more.
Depending on the value of the deceased Barclays may need sight of a Grant of Probate from Canada and if he held more than £50 k in UK a british one.
