For me, the only two problems are:
    1) lack of ticks i.e seeing the red or green without re-clicking on the post.
    2) not being able to sort in date order as before.
Any new forum would have to incorporate those features to be an improvement. I would assume that could require specialist web scripting knowledge. I doubt a free forum provider would offer these.
Yes, and a workable search facility that doesn't bring up the the same thread multiple times.

It doesn't if you make the correct field selections. Deselect "Replies" in the "What to search" field and you only get thread starter posts in the results. If you don't deselect Replies, you get a result for the thread starter post and extra ones for the replies.

Fingers crossed as I am beginning to lose hope!  It is hard to stay positive at such grave times!  I am shielding because of health conditions and won't step out of my home until a vaccine is found!  I feel a second spike is on it's way.....

Just re-visiting this thread as I suggested the same on this thread - we're now a few months down the line and it seems there's been only minimal change, would MSErs be up for this now or are your views still the same, please reply and let us know, thanks.

I don't mean to state the obvious but have you thought about costs for this?
You'll need to buy hosting, a domain name, software (assuming you're not gonna write it yourself) and then hours of updating code to meet your exacting needs.  Someone will need to look after backups, take on and be responsible for the legal implications of GDPR,  Data Protection, Copyright Infringement etc ... I'm not sure people really understand the work and time involved in something like this.
