take a mortgage out with Alliance & Leicester

My partner and I hope to take out a mortgage soon, well, before January.
I have read that there are problems with A & L's savings and current a/cs,
might it, therefore, be a mistake to take out a mortgage with A & L.
The maximum we choose to borrow is £125,000 and we are tempted by their fixed rate 5 year deal at 4.84%, but Northern Rock has a 7 year deal for 4.99% which should only mean an extra £10 a month.

The mistake is to not shop around and speak to a decent Mortgage advisor who can compare with a large number of lenders.
Everyones situation is different. Take the advice of someone who arranges mortgages for a living - they will know from exp3erience the good and bad lenders.0
