Dental question

Apparently I grind my teeth during the night and my dentist suggested considering a mouth guard , after a particularly painful episode I’ve decide as soon as they open up I will sort one out .

Does anyone use one ? Are they effective?

Please be aware that dental laboratories are not open yet and dentists are going to be doing emergency treatment only for quite some while.

If you clench or grind a night guard is about the only way you will get relief from the pain other than relaxing in the Caribbean for a few months .

Yes I use one. Helps with tension in my jaw and I suppose of the wear on my teeth. Though needs replacing every year or so depending how much you grind as you'll wear it eventually

I use plastic retainers at night (similar to a mouth guard) and I feel like it makes mine worse as it gives me something to bite on!
I'm on hold to get a dentist appointment too as I've done it for years and really messed up my gums with it (especially recently) and it's causing me a lot of pain at the moment, but in the meantime my dentist has sent me a list of jaw exercises to do to help relax the muscle. They do seem to have helped a little bit, so maybe have a look for some online?
As weird as it sounds I also recommend putting the tip of your tongue between your teeth at the front whenever you notice yourself clenching throughout the day - I find myself clenching my jaw a lot when I'm just sat working, watching tv etc, and it's something my dentist told me to do to try and break the habit of having my jaw in that position. Your teeth shouldn't touch each other apart from when you're eating which is something I never really realised.

Yes, in general they are good, but in my opinion it will be not the best decision!
