Making a bicycle into an exercise bike?

After working in a sport governing body, having athletes train whilst not able to get out on a bike would be difficult. As a lot of people have mentioned Turbo Trainers are the best choice for many and you can get apps such as Zwift so you can keep train and cycle with others. If you're not planning on using this once the lockdown is over, invest in a cheap turbo trainer which can be stored safely once you're finished with it.1

Turbo trainers can be great but they are absolute murder on your tyres. I used one for a winter and chewed through the things.
I'd definitely be going second hand: they're one of those things like pasta machines that lots of people buy but then CBA with them.
They're great for learning about cadence if you use it with a cheap cycle computer: try to ride between 60-80rpm (pedal spin) which is the most efficient pace and reduces the risk of knee injury.1 -
Thanks everyone, managed to get a really nice one via Shpock for £40, and ordered a 'riser' to protect the front tyre from amazon for £6. Very happy with it. Up to now I have it in the garage with the kitchen door open so I can see straight through the kitchen into the garden ( much better than staring at 2 tins of paint and a stepladder!
Thanks for all the recomendations for 'zwift' I'll look into that too.2
