Hi, I'm new on here but having read alot of posts i'm hoping somone can help me.
I have a 11 year old boy and have been split up from my ex for 7 years now. In that time I was supposed to get £21.04 a week from CSA, I have probably had about £300 in total over the 7 years and he has seen my son once. ( his choice not mine )
The CSA recently set up a attachement of earnings on him but he has now left his job, so they have wrote to me to ask for info on him as they are applying for a liability order to recover the debt from him. Don't think they will find him as he seems to flit from one job to another.
My problem now is my son is very ill and in and out of hospital every few weeks. I currently work full time but the level of care he is going to need may require me to go part time or even give up work, but I don't think I can afford this as I have no income or CSA from my ex.
Can I make the CSA pay me the debt outstanding while they take the next few years chasing my ex for it???
Does anyone have any advice or help please????
Thanks

I'm sorry your son is so ill.Hope he improves really soon.I'm not up on the csa really but if you work over 16 hours you should be entiled to tax credits. If you give up work then I'm sure you will be able to get income support.Possibly carers allowance.
Please check these out at your local jobcentre or I'm sure somene else will be along soon with a link to a helpful website or more constructive advice.
Hugs to you both.xlost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

Hi - I am sorry too to hear about your son. Unfortunately, in answer to your question, the answer is that the CSA can't pay you in advance and claim the money back unless very specific circumstances have been met, and those circumstances involve them having failed catestrophically in following their own proceedures, PLUS the ex has to have paid regularly for a year so that they are confident that they will actually get the money in. If the issues are that he leaves his job and does a disappearing act, then that won't be deemed as the CSA fault, and will not therefore qualify you for an advance payment.
Depending on his illness, you may qualify for disability benefits for your son, or carer's allowance - contact DWP who will be able to help more.0
