Can anyone recommend some good, basic books (preferably with step by step type photos)? I think we're going to need to go as basic as possible here

I'd recommend Delia's Complete Cookery Course - the earlier version of that taught me to cook over 25 years ago, and I'm still using it for basics as well as more adventurous things

Thank you for all your recommendations. I ended up buying Delias How To Cook books 1-3 as they appeared to have the most illustrations. I know Mum already has a couple of Delia books that she likes so I'm hoping there will be some recipes she can use too once she's well enough.0
