Jamie's minstry of food was written for people who've never cooked and it is a good book, but I also recommend Easy Cook magazine

Was just about to suggest both of these. Easy to read for people who havn't cooked before.

Can anyone recommend some good, basic books (preferably with step by step type photos)? I think we're going to need to go as basic as possible here

I hope your mum's better very soon :A

I'd recommend Delia's Complete Cookery Course - the earlier version of that taught me to cook over 25 years ago, and I'm still using it for basics as well as more adventurous things ;)

We have an exisitng thread for cookery book recommendations for male beginners, so I'll merge this thread to that one :D

  • Thank you for all your recommendations. I ended up buying Delias How To Cook books 1-3 as they appeared to have the most illustrations. I know Mum already has a couple of Delia books that she likes so I'm hoping there will be some recipes she can use too once she's well enough.
