Will this cause major issues?

Hi Everyone
I am really annoyed at myself. I lost my debit card last week and have been waiting for my new one to arrive. I have used my credit card in the interim with the intention of paying off what I have spent as soon as my debit card is here. I had forgotten that my credit limit on this card is quite low and I was close to my limit due to using it for a balance transfer. I have just had an emailed from Barclaycard telling me that I have gone over my limit. I have logged on straight away and have made a payment to bring my account well back within my limit. I have two questions regarding this -
1 - Will it massively affect my credit file?

2 - I don't want to tell my wife about this as she will freak out at me and things are already a little tense right now as she has a lot going on. My wife tends to open all of our post as she is at home in the day. This is usually fine and I have no issue with her doing this. Because I do all of my Barclaycard banking online, statements etc, Will they write to me regarding going over my limit even though they have emailed me this evening?
I know that not everyone will agree with not telling her but it seems pointless if I can sort it quickly

Thanks

Would’ve thought it would be fine, I’ve inadvertently done the same over the years and have nothing on my credit file. Could give them a call to check though.

Can you remember if they wrote to you? They have emailed me so I am hoping that's it

I don’t think they did, this was Santander and several years ago. I used it as my general spending card and for some reason it would let the final payment go through, despite taking me over my limit, so I went over it a few times. Think they did charge a fee a few times though calling them sorted it and nothing went on my credit file.

May I ask if you're in debt and looking to get extra credit this month or already have a poor credit rating?

If you're not looking to obtain further credit, I wouldn't worry about your credit rating. All the agencies rate differently.
