Who doesn't prefer a hatchback boot?

I used to have a Mondeo Mk3 - hatchback. I didn't really think it looked that different to the saloon and it had all the space I needed. Subsequent versions ditto. But I did notice that when the Vignale super premium trim arrived; you can only have that in a saloon or an estate, not the hatchback body. So maybe there are enough buyers who think a saloon is a more premium product?
I'm not a good guide though - I find a lot of modern medium-large saloons to be ugly and the estate versions better-looking in that they are sleeker. Prime example would be Mercedes CLS - I think the Shooting Brake is better looking than the standard coupe-saloon. And the whole coupe-SUV concept is terrible.
I need to think of something new here...0 -
I drove a few saloon hire cars some years back and came away with the impression that they were generally a bit quieter and less rattly than hatchbacks because the boot was better isolated from the cabin, it didn't rely on a flimsy parcel shelf. Plus they tended to look better, somewhat sleeker.
I went for a saloon and probably would again.1 -

I don't think that's true, it depends more on the car.0 -
Started driving in 1992 and mainly had small hatchbacks. As I got older and the family came along, I bought bigger cars, all saloons.
Got a hatchback around 2008, then moved on to people carriers or estates.
Preference now is estates, for the dogs.

I am reminded of the Allegro and Princess, which looked like hatches but weren't.0
