Council tax on empty property!

My mother passed away from covid at the beginning of April. She paid her council tax by monthly direct debit, she was 95. We have just had a bill for this year addressed to myself and 3 sisters. We were under the impression that we had 6 months grace! Not sure now?

Did your Mother own the property when she died or did you and your sisters?
If it was you then there is no exemption allowed after your mothers death

Only in certain cases - as mentioned above who owned the property and who lived there ?
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
