Local government payrise

Hi
Not sure if this is the right forum for this but does anyone have any clue on we might know more on the local government pay negotiations that were due to be completed in time for April? I saw a story two weeks ago about Unite telling its members to reject the offer of 2.75% but have heard nothing since. Obviously things have slowed down since Coronavirus hit. Presumably there's unlikely to be anything official until at least after recess?

Google on your question and you get plenty of huffing and puffing from the various unions. Following what's being said on their websites is as likely to be up to date as anything - nobody here is going to know any better.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1

Except for the NHS I doubt the government will be giving out pay rises to many civil servants. Especially not above inflation.1

Local government employees are not civil servants, they are paid by whichever council they work for. Civil servants are paid by whichever central govt dept they work for.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

True but the money gets distributed from the same place, however it is raised. They all will have budget cuts.So not giving staff a pay rise will be one of the easiest savings for them.lincroft1710 said:Local government employees are not civil servants, they are paid by whichever council they work for. Good luck to all who are holding out their hands for a pay raise.
With all the money that Government have paid out since the virus and all the cuts that local authorities will have to make, pay rises may not be on the table for some time come.
Large scale cuts are and will be on the horizon - it's time to tighten your belts because we are in for a rough couple of years.

No, a lot of local govt finance comes from Council Tax although there are grants from central govtsharpe106 said:

But who controls the purse strings? most of the councils are claiming they are on the verge of running out of money and are begging for more money from central government.0

Yep, I work for a local authority and we've been told all agency staff are out with immediate effect and recruitment is frozen for the foreseeable future. I don't see any pay rise happening for a LONG time.Socajam said:Good luck to all who are holding out their hands for a pay raise.

As a Civil Servant we have been advised this years payrise will be between 1.5% and 2.5%.
I am assuming I will have a 1.5% payrise imposed.0
