Destination2 Should I pay the Balance

I have booked a package holiday with Destination2.co.uk the holiday is not till September 2020 but as it stands currently it looks unlikely that travel will not be permitted still by that time, I have paid a deposit and the balance is due by 5th July 2020, however, I have been reading lots of horror stories about people who have booked with Destination2 and are struggling to get their money back, they are refusing refunds and at best some have got credit notes which are valid till the end of the year, but it looks like most people are just quite simply not getting any information from the company about their cancelled holidays.
I don't want to pay the remainder of the balance and then have to fight to try and get my money back, but equally I don't want to loose a large deposit,  I did pay the deposit on credit card, the holiday is ATOL protected but I am only covered if the company goes under, if they give me a credit note and then they go under, is the credit note covered by ATOL?,does anyone here have any advice on what I should do? Should I pay the remainder of the holiday and then fight to get the money back? Is there anything I can do to reclaim the deposit I have paid?
Really not sure what to do for the best.
