Not Tax but NIC's, the 30 year rule, studentdom etc.

So I am basically finding myself more than a little peeved by the nature of the system.

Firstly, the number of NIC's required to get me the lowly state pension. At the moment it has been stated that up to 2046 the retirement age will be 68.
Now we are only required to put in 30 years of contributions.
This is would suggest I only actually need to start at 38!!

I am a measley 24.

I have earnt ~£3170 (before deductions) this tax year (i wont be working again til April) however it was over a 10 week period.
The totally unfair system that takes weekly pay means I have paid a large sum which likely wont be enough to count towards a years contributions anyway (and we have established I don't even need to contribute yet!) and if this income was spread over a year I wouldnt pay a penny. Least I am below my tax allowance though....

I don't have full figures from this year, but last tax year I worked more (tail end of a year out in industry). I earnt ~£6000, paid about £80 in income tax and a big £350 in national insurance. Least it isn't such a large proportion of total earnings this time, but again, if the 6k was split over a year I think I would have only had to pay just under half that amount. Awful thing is, I have just worked out I owe ~£40 in income tax.

I don't know if there is any way to claim back because I am not convinced I will get anything for having paid. The hmrc websites are a mound of meaningless information and nowhere actually says what a full years contribution is.

I am for taxation, I just am not for being shafted!

Any comments? Join me in my indignation!

Helen

I don't think you are seeing the bigger picture here. NIC's are not just for your pension.

You cannot get a refund on NIC's.
    Gone ... or have I?
