Credit card never defaulted...please advise

Hi, I have a credit card which I have been paying a token payment on for many years, my other creditors defaulted me years ago, they are due to drop off my file in about 2 years, but this credit card is a real problem.
When I was ill and everything went to the wall about 6 years ago this was the only company who carried on putting interest and charges on for ages, so a small debt became a large one, and then they didn't default it... they took a complaint from me over the phone 18 months ago about how they harassed me and put massive charges on, but of course their letter back to me denied any wrong doing on their part, so I was stuck with this now big debt most of which is charges and interest.
When all the stuff happened nearly 6 years ago I was very unwell mentally and I still am, when they took that complaint I was mentally unwell and they walked all over me.
Does anyone have any suggestions please......

When was your last payment to the card?

    August 2019: £28.8k

    November 2020: £0 (0% interest)

If you were unhappy with the outcome of your complaint, the next step would have been escalation to the financial ombudsman service, who would have reached a determination for you, its too late now, as you only have 6 months to refer your complaint to them.
Which card company is it please, it would help to know ?
I can then formulate a new complaint for you to send to them, sighting current guidence and their obligation to abide by it.
Where issues such as you describe exist, its always good practice to send an official written complaint, as it has more clout, and is taken more seriously than a phone conversation which can be used against you.

  • Thank you, and I agree with all you say.
The problem was that at the time I was very unwell, I am still unwell now and dealing with this stuff badly triggers my PTSD and takes me back to the time when all this happened.
It is Vanquis, and knowing what I know now I would not have  entertained them and their shocking interest rates and strange ways of billing.
What I would like to achieve is them removing the interest and charges and then I could try to pay off what I owe, on my files it shows as current/arrangement and over utilisation, so I can't move on with my life financially.
I don't know if I want it  defaulted and added to my other 4 defaults (which I am trying to move the dates on) or do I want it current and back to normal paying so it doesn't look as bad to prospective lenders.
Thank you for your advice and help.
