Reserving seats for train travel if you buy a season ticket

My 17yo daughter studies at a FE college 40 miles from our home and commutes to this by train. She has the 16-17 saver railcard which knocks 50% off the price and I buy her pass weekly, monthly or even half termly as it reduces the cost even further. She is able to travel at anytime with it, which is handy if her college lets her out early or late.
As and when her college returns I have seen that the rail provider she travels on is requiring seats to be booked in advance. Is this even possible with the season ticket she uses?

Yes, but exactly how will vary between train companies and routes, and might not be available yet.
In the past you'd usually need to reserve at a station for an existing ticket, and the day before, but this should change to online reservations at shorter notice to cope with coronavirus changes.
The National Rail site is not helpful at the moment but futher guidance may emerge as things progress.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.1
