Remortgage now into its 7 month of waiting

Hi
We purchased a house two and a half years ago with the help to buy 20% loan from the government and took out a mortgage with precise (as my other half had a new default).
Back in October i started the process of remortgaging to a high street lender on a better rate. We got the offer from the mortgage company and thought great it practically halved our payments.
I have spent the last 6 months fielding the same questions from the solicitors (natwests solicitors) over and over. One question they have asked the same question 4 times. I have just had to apply for a extension to our mortgage offer for 3 months.
There are now problems with target as they need to create a new process because of what is going on in the world and we are now waitinf to see if Natwest will accept this.
I dont actually know what i want to ask but i could actually cry with the amount of time this has taken us. Most people i know get remortgages in 2 months max. We are on month 6.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences?
Thanks

Impossible to comment without knowing what was causing the delay initially. The past few months have been unavoidable with many many people have had to put their lives on hold. That's just life.0
