Reason For Career Change?

Hi, I have had to create a new profile as my other profile could potentially be traced back to me.
My current role has become unbearable. Not a day goes by where I am threatened with losing my job and verbally abused.
I have been working for the same company for over 8 years and loved my job until I was promoted a year ago.
I have decided it's time to move on and have been looking for a new career.
I have a telephone interview booked for later this week and I was wondering how I approach the "Why are you looking for a new job?" question.
This new role is a complete step change and is paying approx. 25% less, but the responsibility and stress levels will match the salary.
As I have not had an interview for 8 years i'm a bit rusty and I appreciate any advice that is given.
Thanks

This is a situation where you probably need to skirt around the full truth somewhat. Obviously you don't want to mention problems with your current employer or the fact you think this job will be easier.
Maybe focus on why you picked this role in particular. Maybe the skills look more suitable for you? It's in an industry that peaks your interest? Or you feel your current role doesn't exactly match what you are good at? Look for positives and reasons for change.1 -
Covid-19 has made you reassess your priorities (a statement which true for very many people) and you have decided etc etc. Get your story straight in your own mind, keeping it absolutely true (so much easier to remember than fabricating a pack of lies) but being, in that famous phrase, economical with the truth.3

You’re looking to broaden your skills, find something that more closely matches your experience and core values.Good luck!1

Sounds obvious, but remain calm in the interview. Try not to show you are too nervous. In saying that, you do not want to seem over confident. Make sure you are prepared for questions they will most probably ask. Creating great chemistry will be key. Best of luck.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks for your responses.
Had the interview and I felt it went great.
The question of career change did surface and I explained that the role i'm in now evolved from when the company was taken over recently and i'm now wanting to get back to the role I was in prior to the takeover.
They agreed and seemed happy with that answer, so fingers crossed i'll get the request for site visit next week.
Thanks again.
