Gym membership with Energie

Hi,
I visited the Stockton branch of Energie fitness whilst working away. I was informed that I could get my first 3 months free as a new customer and that if I cancelled within the first 2 months I wouldn't be charged. I was then walked around the gym, given a scrap piece of paper and asked to write a few basic details down. The staff member took the details and away I went.
I used the gym for a week, my work ceased and later I ensured to cancel my membership (within the 2 months). I then received notification that I had been charged £29.99 for the following month.
I contacted Energie's phone line and was informed that this was only for new membership enquiries, that they were an outsourced party and could not assist. I then emailed. 3 weeks went by and no reply, so I emailed again and no reply again. I contacted my bank and had the charge reversed.
Long story short, they decided to send a debt agency after me and I still can't get in contact - I've even sent a signed for letter to their head office which was signed for, but still no response. What's more, the collection agencies only seem to be set on my money, won't listen to me and have also messed me about.
I've done some research and can see that I might be protected by the Misrepresentation Act 1967 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1967/7), but I'm not sure how this can be used? Like can I go to a small claims court, because it looks like they're only for if a person or entity owes you money, or is there some other action that I can take? Could I perhaps bill them? It seems I'm pretty stuck as I just can't get in contact with them.
