Hi Jpe, sorry to hear it's RP. I've noticed that stress aids in it worsening quicker so stay cool ;) RP scares me a little, its runs in my family genes, my great nans father was blind, and the women seem to carry it and the men seem to be the ones who end up with the problem :( I think the sad thing is there isn't an easy cure.

My uncles problem is that he owns a construction business, he had dicussed a driver but they only get paid for when they are actually driving so what happens when my uncle is pricing up a job? He's got some options open to him tough, hes had previous businesses and will probably go back to one of them.

As for the competitions, Ive won a few things so far, Im a bit hooked to be honest. It keeps me busy and entertained. I have a mobile set aside for competitions, never had a call though lol. I recommend opening a hotmail account especially for competitions, wish I did :S

I really hope things work out well with you and that with your guide dog and confidence you won't let blindness hold you back. I've been debating becoming a guide dog trainer since my dad got his, a whole 6 years ago. She doesnt act 7! Still a puppy at heart and not yet retired as my dad doesnt venture out much now that he doesnt have to walk my brother to school daily.

    All the best
    Cat :)

Savvy Sue : My hearing problem is not that bad ... wear hearing aids so find it hard in groups. Will use the RNID website sometime to find myself a decent phone. THATS IT DESIGN a PHONE FOR OLD PEOPLE!!! plenty of them out there who cannot use these small gadgets.

Thanks for the tip , I was thinking more along the lines of a fixed line phone!! .... Probably would buy something like this soon in the future. Don't reallylike the look of the big-button phones though sometimes you have to accept looks for usability.
You may have missed the boat with that one: there seem to be quite a few out there, my mum's even got one she can usually hear on now! www.noisyphones.com

But it does have those big buttons: I have mild hearing loss in one ear, and can't use the phone to that ear at all, which is fine because I've just adapted, BUT if the other ear goes I don't yet feel ready for those massive buttons! Unlike you, I may be earily challenged but I'm not blind yet! And I know if I get that kind of phone the family will tease me something rotten!

If you have a local deaf centre or somewhere you can go and try different equipment, that might be worth a try for a phone you can use easily. Also for hearing in groups, there's a natty new personal loop system from RNID for only £60 - as opposed to £400 or so! - which someone in my lipreading group finds EXCELLENT! Have a look here.
