Lowell not kept to agreement, what nexr?

I had a default for an old catalogue debt, and was contacted by Lowell in 2018, I disputed the debt, but ended up setting up a payment arrangement with them for £10 a month just to resolve the dispute.

I recently got a copy of my credit file, and then saw that only £50 had been collected on the account, when checking my bank, I saw that Lowell stopped collecting under the arrangement, I had not cancelled the Direct Debit, nor heard anything from Lowell about the alleged debt.

I logged into Lowell using the online portal and there is no outstanding debt showing, so I disputed the default, and they replied via the CRA, and stated the debt is correct, and they will not remove the default.

What are your thoughts in this sort of instance?, I have issued a formal complaint to Lowell, as essentially 2 years of both time and payments where the majority of the debt being discharged have been lost due to their none collection, I have reasserted that I dispute the debt and have asked again for a S78 copy and for them to prove the debt.

What exactly is it that you want to dispute? It sounds as though you did default, which is why Lowell were involved. You have not lost anything here, you still had the money that wasn’t being collected, so it’s not clear what loss you think that you have suffered. You can just pay the missing payments over and pick up as you were doing before. They have in effect given you an interest-free two year loan.

    Thanks for the reply John.

My point really is that the have broken the arrangement not me, if I had cancelled the Direct Debit and not paid then i’m sure that they would be jumping up and down about it, the whole situation is strange.

The damage to my credit standing is the bugbear here, I have a clean credit file apart from this default, I was looking to see if anyone else had any similar experiences with them
to be honest, but their inability to prove the debt in the first place also is questionable.

Make a complaint to the creditor and then escalate it to the ICO, if you feel that the data recorded on your credit file(s) is innacurate.

So Lowell had stopped taking the money, all was quiet, and you were not been chased for this debt, then you decide to go and poke them with a big stick, and cause a ruckus, have you not heard the term "let sleeping dogs lie" ?
You start your post with the words "I had a default for an old catalogue debt, and was contacted by Lowell in 2018, I disputed the debt," what was the nature of the dispute ?

The default was issued in 2017, and in my view the damage caused by a relatively small catalogue debt to my credit files for another 3 years is far greater than resolving the debt, hence the stick.

I have contacted them,  but they have ignored both keeping to the agreement and haven’t even contacted me for two years, the situation is strange to say the least
