Council tax new build

we have recently moved into a new build 2 bed flat, our council tax rate is more than the 3 bed house we lived in. How can we work out what we should be paying when these properties were not built in 1991. Thanks Sue

Look at the council banding for property of your valuation in your area.

Write to the council and give them your details and moving in date. They will then invoice you for the rest of 20/21.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Hi,
I don't think it's something you can work out yourself, there's no set formula.
Have a read here, might help explain.
If you're not happy with banding then you will need to contact your local authority.
Are your new neighbours in the same band?

If you're not happy with banding then you will need to contact your local authority.

You contact the Valuation Office Agency (England and Wales) or the Assessor (Scotland)
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
