I've just updated the Earn cash from homemade videos section of the Make Money Online guide.

While doing it I noticed the forum thread for that section had closed, so I've created a new one here – though you can still see the questions, answers, tips and successes on the original thread.

So I thought I'd revive this thread to see if any Youtubers are here. The partner program has changed since the MSE guide was updated.

Personally I'm not pursuing an 'optimal' channel idea (postironic comedy) and I certainly don't have the social proof to make claims about making your channel go huge, but I have some thoughts regarding reducing costs of starting off.

- Try and use free software if you can. GIMP is pretty good for photo editing, I use it for backgrounds and graphics, and I use the free version of Davinci Resolve. Unless you are using very advanced features you don't need to buy the Studio version. I've had Capcut recommended to me but I don't know how good the free version is.

- You probably don't need a posh camera, your phone camera is likely to be fine. Try and upload in 4K if you can as Youtube are recommending it - more people are watching on their TV these days. People are more likely to stop watching because of poor audio quality, but you don't have to spend loads on a microphone.

I enjoy making videos, but I struggle to get them out regularly. So yeah it would be good to have people to chat to.
