Hi so I stopped working for a company on 28th Feb 2020, but can I still claim my petrol allowance for the last year up to then with a P87(the company completed them for us each year normally, but won’t do it for me this year as I left)? Or would I need to complete a self assessment instead, as not employed by the company anymore (I’m now self employed as of 9th March 2020). Thanks for any help.

As you were self employed in 2019:20 then any claim like this for 2019:20 will need to be included on your 2019:20 Self Assessment return.

When you complete the return you have to include all taxable income so will be including details of your employment to 28 February 2020 and can include any expenses on the employment part of your return.

Once you are registered as self employed you should be sent a notice asking you to file a return for 2019:20.  There is no need to wait until next January to file the return.

Hi am trying to fill in my P87 form and I am not seeing the Work from Home section. Am I going mad or have HMRC hidden the WFH section. I have been WFM since April 6th.
