"I may not have one or two desirable requirements on a job description" - desirable is not the same as essential.
Some people (generally men) would apply even if they didn't have all the essential requirements too.
When you look at the person specification requirements think about ways in which you can meet them - possible alternatives perhaps or different way of looking at the requirement.

Definitely apply for the jobs you want.  Maybe you won't get it, but it will give you practice at the applications and interviews, and in working out good examples to show that you really do have the skills they are looking for.

I'd also say don't discount skills gained outside work: I got one based almost entirely on voluntary experience of helping to set up an afterschool club and running the school PTA.

Nothing wrong with a sideways move, if you feel stuck and that appears to be your only way then go for it.

Make sure that there would be progression possible before you mae a sideways move otherwise you might as well stay were you are/

Just go ahead and apply for the jobs you want.

Treat it as a learning experience. With that mindset, it's totally fine if you aren't successful. The more job applications you write, and the more interviews you have, the better you'll get at doing them.

Could you just clarify..by moving "sideways", do you mean to a different position? From admin to healthcare assistant, for example?
