A friend (who lives in the UK) took out 50,000 Euro loan from a Slovakia for her Aunty to get a mortgage in the UK.  This was 10 years ago.....
Much to my friends horror, she has found out her Aunty never paid it back.  And the bank has now contacted my friend who took the loan out.  What can she do, could she be arrested, how can she get this resolved.  The person in questioned did not use the money only her auntie and is on a low wage .

Your friend needs to pay it back.

Whether she can get anything from your aunt is a separate matter.

It took the bank 10 years to ask for repayment??

Can you tell us which bank?

That's normal practice. The mortgage will be in your friends name not the "Aunty".  Your post suggests a lack of understanding.

Anyone think this is a wine-up? Look at the OP name carefully.

Your post starts with I took a loan? Then states a friend took a loan?
Who ever took the loan out?  it will be in their name and if outstanding the
bank will pursue that individual to get money back. Where any payments made? If so what amount is still outstanding?

Just to be clear OP, you or your friend are not going to be arrested for a civil debt!
So how much is the debt? What is the property worth? What assets and income are there?

The loan company is in Slovakia and the friend who took out the loan is in the UK?
I guess the friend needs to find out how debts are handled in Slovakia. In theory the Slovakian bank could enforce the debt in the UK although that is pretty difficult.
