Mortgage with Skipton Building Society

I opened an account with SBS in 1993 and left it open when I moved to Ireland in 2003. I plan to move back to UK in three years. Do you think that once I start paying back into it regularly, I would be considered for a mortgage after six months with necessary proof of address, wage slips etc? Or would I be better starting from scratch with another bank with better rates?
Thankyou for your time

Will you fit criteria with Skipton?
You need to check with them what their stance is on address history. They do credit score you so with 6 months history even if you do fit criteria it may be a tough ask passing the score - but if you were our customer, we would be calling them to ask if we had narrowed them down as an option. If you are doing it yourself then you need to do that legwork yourself really.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks for your reply.Who’s the best mortgage provider at the moment do you think?0

There isnt a best, its a case of who is best for you. My mortgage lender for example isnt the best, but being self employed with childcare costs, I was limited. They were best for me as my options were limited at my last remortgage.
Your not going to be a straight forward case so it is more a case of finding out lenders where you fit and will likely accept you and then narrow it down.
My favourite lender (for ease) would not accept you until you have been back in the UK for 3 years.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. ACG says it 100% right. When I was applying for a BTL my broker checked with the underwriters “off the record” whether my unusual injury benefit was acceptable as she didnt think one would accept. Id read both of their intermediary terms and thought both would accept but bizarrely one didnt accept as it wasn't taxable so not “earned”. The moral of the story is a good broker stops you applying to the wrong bank and “wasting” a hard credit search on a company that was never going to accept you anyway0

Lack of UK credit history will be your major challenge when you return. At the current time who knows what the future holds.0
