Listening ipod through external speakers

Hi all. I'm a bit of a luddite where tech is concerned so I seek help with this.
I have an ipod nano that sits on a docking station to listen to music. I also listen through earphones, but only myself can hear. The docking station I have was dropped from a work surface and broke. I was looking for another docking station when a friend online told me that it could be possible to play the ipod through one of those bass speakers that are similar shape to those "alexa's". He said he didn't have an ipod but he plays his music via Bluetooth from his phone through a small ball type speaker. I can't go and visit him so I have come to this forum for assistance in this problem. So, is there a way to play your ipod through one of those speakers with a lead with 3.5 jack plug on both ends.
Kind regards Jeff.

Hi Jeff.
Yes, there is. Just buy a double-ended jack of the right size and a pair of speakers that will take them. Then set the iPod to play, adjust the volume and enjoy. You are looking for something with an “aux in” facility. (I think “aux” stands for auxiliary, but I’ve only ever seen it abbreviated.)
You will be surprised what comes with an “aux in”. I frequently plug my iPhone into my kitchen radio that way and I play it/use it as a sat-Nav in the car, through the one there.
HTH.
