Wedding cake

ok, bit unusual question. Maybe more of a discussion.
clearing out the cupboards and found our old wedding cake. It is over 13 years old.
It is the layer that is kept for your first child’s cake. It was traditional whiskey (or brandy?) fed fruit cake.
we are not going to use it for that. No kids together. I don’t even know when was it last fed!
But is it bad luck if I throw it away? I am not supersticious, normally, I don’t even know why am I thinking this over for so long!
what would you do with it? It’s taking half a cupboard!
Or should I just leave it there? And pretend I never considered using the space for something else🙈

Interesting. I never knew that about the bouquet and tearing brides dress off!
I think it is safe to throw the cake away😂🤪0 -
I wouldn't worry about a superstition. If I wanted/needed the space, I'd get rid of it - but then again I dislike any type of fruit cake. Are you curious about what it tastes like?

I am not fan of fruit cake myself, although hubby is. Even he said he wouldn't risk it though..he did thought about it, but conceded it might not be best idea to tryPollycat said:I wouldn't worry about a superstition. If I wanted/needed the space, I'd get rid of it - but then again I dislike any type of fruit cake. Are you curious about what it tastes like?

I'm not superstitious so would just throw it away, but if it'll nag at the back of your mind, can you do something like pop it in the compost then use the compost to grow a nice plant or something? Or just bury a small bit of it with your favourite existing plant. I doubt it'll make much difference to anything but you can think happy thoughts about it feeding your plant(s).3

I have to admit I would have to cut a slice and sniff it (and possibly taste it) - if I liked fruit cake.Clearing out the cupboards I've found some very old bread mix (focaccia, I think) that I'm going to try making.I may report back (or I may not
)3 -
I'm inclined to agree with Islandmaid but if that doesn't sit comfortably with you why don't you just minimise it? Cut off a small piece, rewrap it and chuck the rest. Best of both worlds.3

we kept a tier of ours that i found after about 15 years safe to say it went in the bin and 6 years on we are still going strong safe to say i hate fruit cake so dont know why i kept it that longonwards and upwards2

Well, that's it. I didn't even want traditional one at my wedding🤣🤣 I had 2 others (it was a big party!) Hubby & his mum insisted. Friend made it. I tried to throw it away when we moved house but at the time hubby defended it! For tradition. Made me paranoid I think.tessie_bear said:dont know why i kept it that long
This time he conceded it cannot be used anymore and I did chuck it
It was beautiful though and I have plenty of pictures to remember.2 -
I found wholemeal flour out of date. But well wrapped and no nasties in it.Pollycat said:I have to admit I would have to cut a slice and sniff it (and possibly taste it) - if I liked fruit cake.Clearing out the cupboards I've found some very old bread mix (focaccia, I think) that I'm going to try making.I may report back (or I may not

Tried to make bread and it was a disaster. I think it needed more water. I thought that when the breadmaker started to bake but didn't act.
Hope your focaccia turns out better then the BRICK I made. Seriously, you could kill someone with it, if used as a weapon.
