I thought an IPA lasted 12 months - I can’t apply for bankruptcy until early June until I’ve saved enough for the fee.

an IPA can last for as long as its agreed. For many the IPA is a 3 year thing, which takes their disposable income over this period (and it varies according to income and expenditure during this period), for others its simply a way of collecting tax(income and council) that they would normally have paid, these last for as long as the tax break lasts (so in effect you don't get the tax break, it goes to your creditors, which includes the council and HMRC - edit well your creditors once the bankruptcy fees are paid, these are huge your creditors often receive nothing)

I have just signed my IPA. It’s for council tax only and it runs until April 5th 2021 
it’s only been issued as I won’t be paying the council tax this year and it’s no for the full amount. The lady was very fair and upped my budget in some areas. I have to pay £30 per month. I was allowed quite generous allowances I thought. I’d even put £8 per week in for alcohol, said a bottle of wine at the weekend and she didn’t question
