Beware with subs. If you order more than 1 of any item you might get a subs for an item which is more expensive per item but only get 1. Therefore the actual cost is less than the total of the items you ordered. So you lose out.
Example - ordered 3 Asda cheapo noodles at something like 22p each. Tot 66p
Got sent 1 Supernoodle at 58p.
I need to venture out  to collect a prescription on Thursday. It's not the end of the world. Please.
Would you pick mine up while you're there? TIA :D

I was always getting  substiitutions  when Id  indicated I didnt want any , but  put it down to  Asda just being mad busy  because of the virus.  All were acceptable as it happened , so no problem and didnt worry. Now  its still happening , and I think I see why ! Contrary to intuition ie wanting to green tick the individual box next to items I DO  want a sub for (.whilst reviewing just before checkout) ,  --- Ive been following the instructions  on the Asda Q&A  on how  to set your substitutions , and putting a tick in the box next to the items  I DONT want subs for ..  This is  the section  that instructed me .

" 2. On the final Confirmation page, select Review Trolley to see a preview of your trolley items

    3. To select individual products that you don’t want to receive substitutions for, click the check box next to the item. Or, if you don’t want to receive substitutions for any of the products in your trolley, click the Select All check box.

Ticking you dont want something  seems counter intuitive to me . I wonder if  some pickers are  thinking the same  , and others going by Asda instruction ?

That must be a recent change, mine showed, Saturday, all ticked to allow substitutions, I just untick to mean no subs. It works for me & my pickers

It starts by default as all ticked, I assume they mean if you do not want subs for anything by ticking the select all box, which really mean un tick it. No doubt makes sense somewhere
I still get charged 40p for non existent carrier bags though.
I assume computer just bungs it on after the pick and total up on assumption they were supplied even if they were not.
Phone call refunds without quibble OK but a minor niggle on an otherwise easy method of shopping for me

As most people don't complain and, especially now, some people will assume that errors are due to the current circumstances and actually be happy to accept bad service, savvy companies know that it's easier & cheaper to deal with the few complaints received with a small refund, than spend a small fortune to fix the problems.
