Signed off for stress and want to find a new job

Hi, I very recently got signed off for stress and anxiety ( for a month. ) Partly due to personal circumstances and partly work related - very unhappy in my job. Anyhow, I now wish to search for another job that I am better suited to. Am I allowed to do so? I don't want to leave my current workplace without another job lined up, but returning to my current job is not an option. Would I face disciplinary action if I secured an interview whilst being signed off? I don't want my employer to know just yet, that I plan to leave. Thanks. Any advice will be helpful.

Of course you are free to find another job if you want to. I think going to a job interview while signed off sick is acceptable, they might to try to discipline you but I'm not really sure what for. To be honest I think they'll just be glad you're dealing with it yourself.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse1
