Old share certificate found 'Intermediate Equity PLC'

Options
Just found an old share certificate whilst going through my elderly Mum's things. 'Intermediate Equity PLC'
I did a quick google but couldn't find anything.
Does anybody know what happened to them?
Thanks
Bruno

They were a tiny company holding investments in the telecoms and internet-related sector at the height of the 'dotcom' boom. By the end of December 2000 their balance sheet was down to £2 million, made up of a few obscure investments valued at less than what they had paid, some cash and debtors. During 2001, an investor who had acquired a large stake installed their own directors and kicked the old lot out. They were dropped by their old Nomad and suspended from trading. They changed their name to IEQ plc.

They announced that the previous board had caused the cash reserves to be depleted and having haemorrhaged cash (relatively speaking) through payments for advisory services,  they no longer had enough resources to function as would be expected for a public company.  They were unable to re-establish their trading facility on the AIM market for financial reasons.

Back in 2001 they said that if there was further information they would publish it on ieqplc.com. That domain name is now freely available for registration and the Companies House's free search tool does not list IEQ plc as a former name of any current UK company (presumably didn't survive long enough to be still around when Companies House records were digitised some years later).

You can safely assume that your mum's shares won't be worth anything, much like a lot of dotcom investors found at the end of the tech bubble in 1999-2001.

    After some google research
     - it changed its name to IEQ PLC and left AIM after some financial shenanigans were uncovered: https://www.investegate.co.uk/intermediate-equity--ieq-/rns/aim-trading-facility/200110151751516232L/
     - IEQ PLC seems to have disappeared around 2001: http://app.duedil.com/company/gb/03634454/ieq-plc
Why or how Mum should have had shares in an obscure small financial company seems somewhat odd.  It certainly isnt (or wasnt) an obvious choice for an investor

Thank you for your help Bowlhead & Linton.
I have in front of me the IEQ PLC share certificate as well. My father was a keen investor so that explains why my Mum had holdings in them.
I've now got an extra 2 pieces of waste paper for the wheelie bin, which is already full!
    Thanks again B
P.S. Watch this space, please. More old share certs coming soon...….
