Minimum Wage - When should pay go up?

Hi all,
My annual salary currently works out that I'm being paid £8.54 an hour, so with minimum wage increasing to £8.72 I was expecting a sight increase this month, but my payslip has just arrived and it hasn't happened.
I've just found out about the "pay reference period" so before I go and bother HR: if I'm paid on the last day of the month for that month (so on 30/04 I'll receive wages for 01/04-30/04) does anyone know if this means I won't see an increase until May or should I indeed have had it in April?

Increase takes effect from 1 April 2020, so your pay for April should include the increase (I'm assuming you aren't on furlough with the employer 'topping up' to 100% of pay? If you are, the increase won't kick in until you are un-furloughed).0

The pay increase comes into effect on the first full week or first full pay month from the first of April
So this year April !st being Wednesday they don't need to bring the pay increase that week, they start the following Monday
Same if you are Monthly paid, April the first being mid week probably means your pay increase will not show until you are paid May's hours0 -

Using the first statement you made as true, then if the person is paid monthly, not weekly, the pay for April should be entirely at the new rate.0 -
Thanks all! Hadn't contacted HR yet, but received an email today saying pay would be increased in May but backdated to 6th April. Don't know if this was the intention all along or whether they've just realised they've messed up but hey ho, at least it's being sorted.

They seem to think the rate changed on 6 April (start of current tax year). It didn't, it started on 1 April 2020.
Are you paid the same amount each month?0 -
Yes I'm paid the same each month. I think you're right, it should be backdated to the 1st. I'll query it.
