Council banding

Hi
I have lived in my house for about 23 years and assumed my council tax banding was correct until I seen your television programme. I checked my banding and my house is the only one in the street that is a c banding. Everyone else is either an A or b. My next door neighbours who leave in exactly the same style of house are a v band. I sent a letter LaNarkshire Valuation Joint Board regarding my banding and they advised that my proposal was out of time, I apparently had six months from the date i became the taxpayer. I sent a letter of appeal to the Appeal Panel and again i have been told i only had six months to appeal against my banding. Can I take this any further forward, any advice please?
Many thanks

You can only ask the Assessor (whom I presume is the LVJB) if they could review your band as the neighbour's are Band B. The only downside being is that they discover your band is correct and the neighbour' are wrong and consequently increased. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Good Morning
I am new to these forums, so apologies in advance! I am in a similar position to Izzy25. We have lived in our home for 9 years and are in a higher band than our neighbours who live in a similar property. In addition to this, we have other neighbours who live in what was previously a smaller property but has now been extended to become much larger than ours. They are also in a lower band.
Can someone please confirm if there is a six month limit to make a claim, as I am reading conflicting advice in different websites.
Thank you you in advance.0 -
If you wish to formally appeal your CT band you have 6 months from the time you first occupied (or were entitled to occupy) your home, or 6 months from time it was first banded or the band altered if these events happened after your occupation. If the appeal cannot be settled between yourself and the VOA, it is referred for a hearing by the independent Valuation Tribunal.
Outside of the 6 months, you can ask the VOA to investigate your band, but there is no involvement by the VT, if the VOA do not reduce your band, that is the end of the matter

Hello lincroft1710
Thank you for your advice - I really appreciate it. As we are several years beyond the time limit, do you think it would be a complete waste of time and effort to enquire, or would it still be worthwhile?
I would welcome your opinion, if you have time.
Thank you!!0 -
It may be worthwhile if there are identical (or near identical) houses in the same band. Ignore the house that's been extended as property owners can extend their home without the CT band being increased until after the house been sold. Only downside would be if your band was in fact correct and the others too low, but this doesn't often happenIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
