Work Not Processed Return to Work - Mat Leave

Hi
I was due to return to work on April 10th from mat leave but take 4 weeks holiday to actually go into work on May 14th.  This was agreed with my boss back In Feb and I have email correspondence to confirm.  Today I should have been paid from 10th April - 31st April but discovered my boss has overlooked informing HR.  To further complicate matters he has now retired and not been replaced. HR won't process my return without management approval but I am going around in circles as no one wants to touch my old boss mess. Any ideas?

Do you have written proof of what happened? If yes then just forward this over to your new manager.

Forward the e-mails and point out that his retirement is neither here nor there; a binding agreement was formed (?was it) while he was still 'management'.
  • I don’t have a new manager. Recruitment is suspended. I have an email from him that states “I confirm that your return to work ....”
not sure if that’s a formal agreement.

Yes that is a formal agreement.

Forget your manager as a person. You manager, as a decision maker of your employer, made a decision. Him retiring is neither here nor there, as it was the position (Manager of X) that made the decision.
