Will I lose money if I pay a balance on a holiday which is curretly against FCO travel advice.

I will try to keep this brief.

I paid a deposit for a holiday (£450) through a respectable tour operator back in January before all the problems with CoVid-19.  The remainder of the balance is due at the start of May. The destination in Sardinia naturally falls under the guidlines for Italy, which as we all now is still an area that our FCO are advising against all travel to.  So my question is, if I pay the remainder of the balance and then I am unable to travel due to continued travel restrictions, will I be covered by my insurance or ATOL as this part of the payment for the holiday would have been made AFTER the FCO have advised against travel to this destination.  I would rather just lose the initial deposit if this is the case and not pay the balance as it looks as though the restrictions will not be lifted for this summer (just from what I have read on other sites).  Any help would be appreciated.

Why would ATOL cover you unless this "respectable tour operator" goes bust?
If you cant go then the tour operator will refund you.

The FCO advice only relates to the current time of departure, not in the future (as you don't know what the FCO advice will be)
That's why you can book holidays now for say 2021.
