Just change the date when required.

At the moment it says there are approximately 100 pages of competitions

if I wanted to work from the first posted to the last posted, would I simply need to go to page 100 and work back? Or if someone replies to a post, does that chan the order of everything?

im just trying to find a way to enter that works and is easy.

That depends on which url you are actually starting from.
If you use https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/competitions-time/?sort=new as your starting point, the board is presented in order of date first posted starting with the most recent. Using this, any replies will not change the order so, yes you can can go to the last page and work forward with no problem. New comps posted will always be added at the top of page one.

If you use the standard starting url that MSE gives you of https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/competitions-time the order is by latest post where any reply then moves that thread to the top of page one.
    Hope that makes sense.

I have the first url bookmarked and always use that as my access point.

Also when you leave the page - how do know which page to return to when you come back?

If you click either Entered or Skipped, these show on the main list and you just find the last one marked but you may need to note the page you were up to until you get up to date. As you can only mark Entered or Skipped from within each comp thread (there is a change request to make it accessible from the main list), some people say it is too time consuming but it's what I do. There are so few comps being posted at the moment that I find it quite easy to do.

Thank you - that's what I'm trying to do and hopefully - as you say - they'll allow you to tick entered or not entered without having to open that actual thread
