Massively wrong P60

Hi, I am a agency worker that has to use an umbrella company as my payroll. I have been with a few different umbrella companies over the years but never had this problem, my P60 is wrong, as in it only declares a third of what I have actually earned.

The thing is that I didn’t notice until now because they were taking around 33% off of me on my payslips which is what I have been used to with other umbrella companies. I checked online with HMRC and they haven’t received any tax or NI from the umbrella at all. I sent some emails and spoke to someone senior in payroll asking how and why this has happened. The reply was that is just how they process the money. I said not good enough, and then given him the figures of what they had taken from me asking who has the money now? They say HMRC.

This is wrong and I know it but I feel like I need some advice going forward as I can’t submit a tax return with this P60.

any advice appreciated.

You may wish to post in the tax section rather than the pension section.  Look a bit further down the list and copy and paste it there.

  • Payment of the tax and NIC is between the employer and HMRC, not really your concern (lots of employers are probably finding it hard to pay at the moment).

What would be a concern is if the company has not reported your pay details to HMRC under the Real Time Information system.

    Is that what you mean?

Can you use the information on your payslips to complete your return?

I think so, it’s the tab that states what they have received from your employer. Mine has some pay declared but it all adds up to under the tax threshold so the tax column has just 0’s in it and NI has a few low sporadic payments.

As as far as the payslip states it’s all there but in the breakdown of costs it puts most of the cost under ‘company tax’ and ‘company NI’ which come out of my pay but does not seem to count to my Final salary.

Input your total salary for last tax year into the above and see if it says you should have paid tax, by your own admission it comes under the amount where tax and NI is due.

The company tax is the tax a business pays due to paying you wages, it's not a tax you pay.

    Thanks MovingForwards,
I used the calculator and I have had all of that money deducted and and extra 2k taken off on top, some will be their fee but it is still too much.
About the company tax/NI I know you are right about this but I am not sure if I will be culpable for not seeing it earlier, as it was put on my pay slip, although their processing methods seem overly complicated and the breakdown of pay is confusing.

To me it looks like they are being fraudulent and pocketing the money they should be passing on to HMRC.
