Unable to start new job due to coronavirus (not on new employer pay role)

Hi, I currently work in the NHS on a fixed term contract which ends on the 30/04/2020. I was due to start a new job in a special needs school but the new employer is unable to start me now until potentially September. I had signed a conditional contract but this had no start date on it (as they were waiting on my DBS to come through, which has came through over a month ago). My current employer (NHS) has said they are unable to extend my contract. Is there any advice on what I can do. Potentially I could be jobless for 5 months.
Thank you

You would be looking at claiming UC or other unemployment benefits until your new start date.

What a rotten position to be in. Have no qualms about signing up for benefits if you can't get any sort of temporary post.
