Ending self employment

So my partner was self employed from March 2018 - July 2018, and I was self employed from September of the same year to January/February of 2019.

We followed the right channels to get registered with HMRC etc but now that it has all ended do we need to do anything to "unregister"?

I have received absolutely no correspondence from them, and my partner has received nothing other that 2 maybe 3 emails saying there is a message on his account or something but neither of us can remember our login details.

I'd have thought if we owed them anything we'd be sure to know about it by now as it was almost 2 years ago and the self employment didn't even last for 6 months.

Where do we go from here? Thank you in advance

I suspect the messages are probably penalties for not submitting your self assessment. Suggest you sort out log in details and check.
  • Oh we also started claiming Universal Credit as soon as my partners self employment finished.

Is there not a link somewhere between self assessment and UC?

No. DWP and HMRC are not the same entity.
  • Ok thank you.

Will get on there now and check, if I just knew where the login bit was... Seem to be going round in circles looking for it...

It should be fairly straight forward to reset. gov.uk is pretty decent.
